Campbell STEM Elementary

1966-2026

Campbell STEM Elementary served students in grades PreK–5 and was recognized for its innovative approach to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education. Originally established as Campbell Elementary, the school began its transition to a STEM-focused model in 2016 when staff proposed creating a specialized learning environment centered on interdisciplinary STEM instruction. The Anchorage School Board approved the proposal in 2017, and Campbell STEM became one of the district's dedicated STEM schools.

As both a neighborhood school and a districtwide lottery school, Campbell STEM welcomed a diverse student population from across Anchorage. The school intentionally integrated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics into all subject areas, emphasizing hands-on inquiry, engineering design, place-based learning, and real-world problem solving. In addition to its STEM focus, the school supported English Language Learners, gifted students, and students receiving specialized instruction services.

Campbell STEM fostered a strong sense of community through student leadership opportunities, family engagement, and partnerships with local businesses and organizations. Programs such as STEM Council, peer tutoring, peer mediation, and STEM-based positive behavior incentives encouraged students to develop both academic and leadership skills. Guided by its mission to Support, Teach, Empower, and Motivate, Campbell STEM prepared students to become lifelong learners, responsible citizens, and problem-solvers in an ever-changing world.
